Working with BSL interpreters and translators in the public sector

This e-module is intended for anyone who works with D/deaf service users and British Sign Language interpreters.

We will provide an understanding of working with D/deaf clients, identify the need for BSL interpreters and their role, guide you through the WITS booking process as well as provide practical guidance on how to work effectively with a BSL interpreter.

The module will cover:

  • Introduction
  • Communicating with people who are D/deaf or hard of hearing
  • The importance of BSL
  • BSL interpreter qualifications
  • Requesting a BSL interpreter
  • BSL translations
  • The role of a BSL interpreter
  • Working with BSL interpreters

The Module will take approximately 30 minutes to complete.







    WITS welcomes new register requests from linguistics of any language and are able to support you through the registration process and required vetting standards.
